HOW ARE YOU GOING TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL SALESPERSON'S DAY?

First, recognize salespeople's contribution to your business success.  Then thank them.  (You can golf later.)

DALLAS, TX (February  2002):    On March 1, 2002 the  second National Salesperson's Day will take place.  Some will think it is a day to knock off early and go golfing.  Others will think it's a day filled with chatting and taking customers to lunch.  After all isn't that what salespeople do?

Hardly.  This day arose because of the misconceptions about what selling is and to highlight the extensive contribution salespeople make to business success.  Salespeople help their customers make the best buying decisions.  Talented salespeople filter the vast amount of information that is available to their customers. They then present what is necessary. This enhances the business performance of their customers.   Salespeople also help consumers make better, quicker decisions with the counsel they offer.  Professional salespeople are essential resources for customers today.

Maura Schreier-Fleming, President of Best@Selling proposed the day that is listed in Chase's Calendar of Events.   She says, "Salespeople are the unheralded heroes of business.  Great sales professionals look out for their customers' best interests.  This is especially important after 9-11 when our economy is slower.  Decision makers today are overworked and look to their salespeople for advice and knowledge to help them make the best buying decisions. Recognition for salespeople seems to be forgotten in business because the great ones make selling look so easy.  This day will honor their efforts."

Businesspeople can celebrate the sales professionals who help them make buying decisions faster and easier.  They can:

1.  When a salesman calls, they can say, "I was hoping you would call."

2.  Answer their phone instead of screening salespeople's calls

3.  Buy something

4.  As the salesman if there's anything you can do for him!

These events are unlikely to happy.  For salespeople, they can celebrate National Salesperson's Day by thanking their customers.  After all, it's customers who make the best job in the world possible.
